Mim upgraded to Cat 2 after her second season racing, and has steadily added more wins and podiums to her palmeres. Her speciality is hard sprint finishes, and she spent 2017 challenging herself in the P1/2 field at big races such as the Tour of America's Dairyland and Somerville. In the tri-state area, in 2017 she had wins at Branchbrook, 2nd at Orchard Beach, and shown consistency in the Central Park open races, with 3rd in both the Dave Jordan Classic and Lou Maltese Memorial, and a 4th at Mengoni.
Maria joined DJR in 2013 and steadily adds to her achievements on the bike. Her career highlights include 6th GC for the Green Mountain Stage Race, 6th GC in the Killington Stage Race, 2nd W 45+ in the New York State Criterium Championships, 2nd at the 2018 Metro Showdown and 3rd W 3/4 in the Tour of the Hilltowns. There aren't many racers tougher than Maria, and after some time off recovering from injury mid-2017, she returned as strong as ever for the final races of the season. She’s primed for a great season in 2018.
2017 held good things for Shara. She kicked it off with a top ten finish at Grant’s Tomb Crit and a 3rd place finish in the first Central Park race of the CRCA Women’s Development Series. Never looking back, she went on to take the top step at the Lime Rock Grand Prix and gained experience in the P1/2/3 field in big races such as Somerville. Her season culminated with wins in the final two Women’s Development Series races, finishing the season in the Cat 3 Series Leader’s Jersey.
Merissa burst onto the NYC race scene in 2017, upgrading from Cat 5 into Cat 3 in just one season. Making the move from the O.C to the East Coast, she swapped distance running and soccer for bike racing and hasn't looked back. In her first season, Merissa has found her place at the top of the podium, with wins in Central Park, Giro del Cielo (Crit and 2nd in GC), and Tour de Millersburg (Crit, Road Race 2nd in TT and winning the GC). She's got a powerful engine, and can't be counted out in a bunch sprint.
Kristen Faulkner joined DJR mid-2017 and finished her first season of racing as a Cat 4. She blasted into 2018 with wins in Central Park, and taking the Omnium at the Woodstock Women’s Grand Prix to quickly upgrade to Cat 3. Prior to cycling, Kristen was a varsity rower in college and rowed for Junior National Team at World's in 2010. She's a powerhouse - with a seemingly unstoppable engine and an explosive, long sprint. We're excited that she is off the water and on the road with DJR.
Bryna is our all-rounder, racking up top results in a variety of racing formats. As in her first season racing, she took 2nd W4 RR in the Tour de Millersburg Stage Race, and 4th W4 at the New Jersey State Criterium Championships. She's never far from the podium in Central Park, taking the win on the W98th finish of the CRCA Women's Development Series, and earning enough points to be the runner-up in the Cat 4 Series Leader jersey despite taking the summer off racing to tour around europe on her bike in 2017. She started 2018 with a bang, winning the NYS Criterium Championship at Grants Tomb and now moves into Cat 3, where we know she'll continue to be successful.
Sarah hit the her first season racing with gale force. Her palmeres include an impressive solo breakaway win in the CRCA Women's Development Series and a 5th in the mountains at the CRCA Bear Mountain Classic. At the Giro del Cielo she took 3rd W4 General Classification after placing 2nd in the TT, 3rd in the Crit, and 5th in the RR. After some time off the bike welcoming her daughter Margo into the world in early 2017, she returned for the final two races of the season and then started 2018 in fine form - with two podiums already in Central Park and a well deserved upgrade to Cat 3. She wasted no time in her new category - racing her way into the Cat 3 NYS Road Race jersey at Bear Mountain.
Kristi brings experience and drive to the DJR Cat 3 from her many years of racing in the CRCA. Her love for rolling circuit races became apparent at the 2016 New Jersey State Crit Championships, where she came in 9th W1/2/3, while helping to secure four other top ten placings for her teammates in the same race. At the 2017 Limerock Grand Prix, she handily won the Master's women's title. We sit up and listen when Kristi talks race strategy.
Lize caught the eye of our team in her first ever race, winning the CRCA Women's Clinic, and it soon became apparent DJR was the place for her. She grew up in Sydney, and after relocating to the US to study at Harvard, she made the move to NYC where she joins the growing Aussie contingent on the team.
She's represented New South Wales, Australia and Harvard (where she was teammate of fellow DJR Kristen) in rowing and competed at NCAA's. Wasting no time after pulling on the Orange and Black, she's spent a lot of time of the podium - walking away with the overall GC win at Giro del Cielo.
Sasha is spreading the DJR ladies firepower to Massachusetts after dominating the NYC scene. She's a powerful sprinter who also consistently makes the selection when a break goes, and has multiple wins in Central Park, podiums in Giro del Cielo and an 8th in the P1/2/3 GC at Tour de Millersburg. Our "Queen of Limerock," Sasha took back to back wins at the Limerock Grand Prix in 2015 and 2016, and can always be counted on to lay it all on the line for the team. We're looking forward to joining her for some out of state races now as she continues her studies in MA.
Elena joined DJR in 2014 and gets stronger every race. In 2016 her top-ten in the RR at the Giro del Cielo helped power the DJ W4 team to a first in the GC. She describes the challenge of cycling as a meditation in motion, and brings an abundance of positive energy to the team.
Ruth H. Karpes
If you happen to be riding anywhere near our team when we see Ruth in the park you'll be treated to a chorus of "Good Morning Ruth" ringing out from the peloton. Ruth is our good luck charm, the symbol of what joy on a bike is - and when she's not riding loops of Central Park she is an accomplished children's book author. You can see her work here: http://hruthkarpes.com/blog/
The brains behind our website, MaryLynne became a member of DJR in 2013 after racing in the CRCA. She's a terrific climber, and her attacking style of racing in the park inspires the team.
Caitlin Alexander - Guest Racer
Our second out of state racer, Caitlin is based in Colorado after an impressive first season of racing with DJR. She comes to bike racing after a background in triathlon of 12 years. Caitlin slotted straight into the DJR Ladies lineup - drilling the front break at Orchard Beach to land on the podium in 2nd, before taking 3rd in challenging conditions at Bear Mountain. Since moving to Colorado, she's embraced the mountains, and her 1st in the TT, 3rd in the RR and 2nd in the Crit gave her the overall GC win at the Steamboat Springs Stage Race.
During 2018 Caitlin will be training and racing locally in Colorado with ALP Cycles Racing, and returning to DJR as a guest racer where possible throughout the season.
